Mentoring & Coaching for New Librarians

That’s what I provide for my mentoring clients — personalized advice based on 15 years of experience in elementary school libraries.

Now you’re stressed and overwhelmed because teaching a different class every 40 minutes is nothing like teaching your own class.

You know your collection is outdated, and students don’t like checking out books. You barely have time to eat your lunch, so you’re not sure how you’ll know what new books to order, or how to fix the ones coming back damaged.

You’ve barely mastered the circulation software, and book checkout time is chaos!

Mentoring Packages


How Does It Work?

I know you need all the fine-print details of what you’re getting and what mentoring / coaching looks like (I’m the same way).

Here’s the process:

  1. First, contact me (Collette) to schedule a free 30-minute consultation. We’ll discuss your goals, what you need support with, and find out if we’re a good fit. Different mentoring packages or payment plans can also be arranged.
  2. If you decide to book 1 or more sessions, I’ll send a legally-binding Client Services Agreement that we both sign to move forward.
  3. We begin our sessions via Google Meet.
  4. Most mentoring / coaching sessions are 60 minutes, which can be scheduled weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly.
  5. Time spent before and after our sessions is included in your session, so you only pay for the time we meet “live.”
  6. After all of our sessions together, you have the option to meet one final time for a free 30-minute reflection and wrap-up.

Each session goes something like this:

  • Before we meet, we will set a focus for what you want to discuss, troubleshoot, or solve. This can be as simple as you writing an email to me, or a I can send you a Google Form you fill out.
  • During our session, we’ll discuss the focus area, and anything else related to the school library field that you have questions about. I will take notes about our discussion and the solutions to use or try, so you can be mentally present and engaged in our discussion.
  • After we meet, I will send you a Google Doc summary of the Session Notes, including:
    • Your requested focus or issue to troubleshoot or solve,
    • What we discussed, including possible solutions,
    • Helpful resources I found for you before or after our session time,
    • Our next scheduled session(s), and
    • An updated statement of payments and sessions.
  • The Session Notes are a collaborative document, and you can refer back to them at any time.
