These editable read-aloud activities make it easy for kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grade classes to learn about how authors and illustrators work together to create a book.

The teacher-librarian reads aloud one of the 8 picture book recommendations, and after listening to the story, students check out books and complete one of the activities for the rest of library class.

• Activity #1 – Students draw a line from author/illustrator label to the name on the book cover, and write their jobs. (half-page, 2 per letter-size paper)
• Activity #2 – Students write the names and jobs of the author and illustrator (half-page, 2 per letter-size paper)
• Activity #3 – Students cut and paste the labels to an image of the book cover. (full page, letter-size paper)
• The full-color version of the cut-and-paste activity can be laminated to reuse year after year.
• Full color and black & white versions of all activities

Digital Student Design Activity for each book to assess student learning (16 slides)

• Editable in Google Slides
• Students move labels to identify the author and illustrator names on an image of the book cover.
• Optionally students can also label the title on the book cover.
• Answer key is included and self-correcting so students can check their answers themselves.
