Community Libraries K-2 Elementary Orientation Read-aloud Activities & Lesson

Description

These editable read-aloud activities make it easy for kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grade classes to learn about getting a library card and using the public library and the school library.

The teacher-librarian reads aloud one of the picture book recommendations, and after listening to the story, students complete one of the activities during the rest of library class.

This orientation lesson has 33 slides & pages, and it includes:

Printable Student Drawing Activity (16 slides, 1 slide per book)

• Students use art supplies to create their own library card design. Alternatively, students can create an actual library card on an index card.

Digital Student Design Activity (9 slides, 1 slide per book + extras)

• Editable in Google Slides
• Students move, re-color, and resize icons and digital “stickers” to create their own library card design.
• Extra digital “stickers” are included for students to copy-and-paste onto their library card slide.
