Explore fiction and nonfiction hybrid texts and teach beginning research skills by reading aloud the “Zig and Wikki” graphic novels (or comics) to your ​1st or 2nd grade elementary​ classes with this read-aloud lesson.

By reading aloud to students, you can demonstrate how to read across and down the comic panels and in what order to read the speech bubbles. This graphic novel also includes a fiction story that gives factual information to teach students how to differentiate between fact and fiction.

The teacher-librarian provides the live read-aloud, creates a read-aloud video to embed in the slides, or provides an ebook with audio read-aloud features. After listening to the book or watching the book video, students complete the response activity on the next slide.

This read-aloud and research lesson has 32 slides / pages, and it’s completely editable in Google Slides, including:
